…….
On February 21st Cursive will release their seventh full-length album, I Am Gemini, which is the musical tale of twin brothers Cassius and Pollock who were separated at birth. Frontman Tim Kasher says that the album’s lead track – the guitar-driven, catchy “The Sun and Moon” – is an integral part of the album’s story. “‘The Sun and Moon’ unveils the first time the estranged twin brothers of the story meet, providing an introduction to the theme of duality that is explored throughout I Am Gemini,” Kasher says.

Nov 16, 2011 | New record, “I AM GEMINI” officially announced!

We’ve been talking about it for a bit but now that there is press release it all seems more official. Ha! -Matt

Cursive
has announced the release of their seventh full-length album I Am Gemini on February 21st, 2012 via Saddle Creek.

I Am Gemini is the surreal and powerful musical tale of Cassius and Pollock, twin brothers separated at birth.  One good and one evil, their unexpected reunion in a house that is not a home ignites a classic struggle for the soul, played out with a cast of supporting characters that includes a chorus of angels and devils, and twin sisters conjoined at the head.

Recorded in the summer/fall of 2011 at Omaha, NE’s ARC Studios and mixed at Red Room in Seattle, WA with producer Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Minus The Bear, Isis), I Am Gemini marks the first time front man Tim Kasher, holding the completed story already in mind, wrote album lyrics in a linear fashion, in order, from song 1 to song 13.  The result is thirteen singularly cohesive song chapters that blend effortlessly into one unique narrative. The moody and playfully sinister I Am Gemini is Cursive’s musically heaviest in years, with alternately muscular and angular guitars, pounding drums and driving bass. From the eerie introductory sounds of epic barnstormer “This House Alive” and the irresistibly catchy, insistent “The Sun and Moon”, to the searing “Double Dead” and the split personality prog-pop of “Twin Dragon/Hello Skeleton”, to the roaring, mournful closing track “Eulogy for No Name”, the album is a dynamic, mind-bending, and imaginative ride.

1. This House Alive

2. Warmer Warmer

3. The Sun and Moon

4. Drunken Birds

Cursive
is the longtime trio of Tim Kasher (vocals, guitar), Matt Maginn (bass), and Ted Stevens (guitar, vocals), with Patrick Newbery (keys) and Cully Symington (drums).  I Am Gemini is the follow-up to 2009’s critically praised Mama, I’m Swollen (Saddle Creek), which caught the attention of publications including Alternative Press, Billboard, Playboy, Rolling Stone, and Time Out New York, among others, and earned the band their network television debut on The Late Show with David LettermanCursive has released six full-length albums – including the heralded Cursive’s Domestica (2000), The Ugly Organ (2003), and Happy Hollow (2006) – two EPs, a disc of rarities, and numerous singles since the band’s 1995 inception.

Cursive
will hit the road for a three-week tour around the release of I Am Gemini that will launch on February 12th at the Larimer Lounge in Denver, CO.  The tour will take the band along the west coast – including a February 24th stop at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, CA – and through the southwest before wrapping up with a hometown show on March 3rd at Slowdown in Omaha.  A current itinerary is below and more touring news will be announced soon.

Jul 20, 2010 | Tim to release solo album this October!

TIM & HIS BAND WILL HEADLINE THE TONIC ROOM IN CHICAGO ON 7/27

Tim Kasher is set to release his debut solo album, The Game Of Monogamy, on October 5th, 2010 via Saddle Creek. Recorded this past January in Whitefish, MT, at SnowGhost Music and in his rental home in the small town, the album marks the first time Kasher  has written, recorded, and produced an album under his own name.

The Game Of Monogamy is more of an arranged record than any of Kasher’s past releases, filled with theatrical arrangements and lush instrumentation to create his own blend of classic pop. Ornamented with strings, harp, oboe, flute, and trombone, among other instruments, the songs vary in sound from vibrant and catchy (“Cold Love,” “I’m Afraid I’m Gonna Die Here”) to sweeping and grand (“No Fireworks,” “Monogamy”), and from hushed and spare (“Strays,” “The Prodigal Husband”), to urgent and fraught (“A Grown Man,” “Bad, Bad Dreams”). This moody orchestral pop evokes a 1950s-esque, conservative atmosphere, setting the stage for a dilemma that remains thoroughly modern. The protagonist’s arc in The Game of Monogamy spans the wide range of distinctly human emotions tangled up around relationships in a starched shirt society. Call it the score for our collective sexual plight: expression routinely becomes repression in the name of romance.

Kasher enlisted Patrick Newbery (trumpet/keys for Cursive; also of Lacona and Head of Femur) to help with the arrangements, the production, and to play on the record. Friends Erin Tate (Minus The Bear) and Matt Maginn (Cursive) also stopped by to add some drum and bass parts, respectively, and members of the Glacier National Symphony were recruited for the classical instrument parts.
